The 40-Day University Daniel Fast

The 40-Day University Daniel Fast

March 1—April 9, 2010

There are moments in history when a door for massive change opens. Great revolutions for good or for evil occur in the vacuum created by these openings. It is in these times that key men and women, and even entire generations, risk everything to become the hinge of history—the pivotal point that determines which way the door will swing. We believe that America is in such a moment of history.

The 40-Day Fast

Four years ago, a profound movement of 40 day fasting and prayer chains spontaneously erupted on university campuses across America. God was breathing prayer for university awakenings. At the same time, Lou Engle joined with the Justice House of Prayer in Boston for 40 days of prayer and fasting from March 1st to April 9th. Hundreds of young people gathered to pray and fast, day and night, for breakthrough at Harvard and for the Ivy League schools.

During that 40 day season a trusted godly man had the following dream: “I saw masses of young people with welts on the temples of their head. I then asked, ‘What are those welts on the temples of their head?’ I heard a voice answer; ‘It’s poison ivy on the mind of a generation. The Ivy League universities were intended to be the leaves of healing and to bring the light and the glory of God to the nations of the earth. Instead, they have poisoned the mind of a generation.’” This dream is profound as it speaks to the ideological strongholds we face, but also to the intended purpose of these schools and what could be if we pray.

Now four years later it seems the wind of God is blowing again. Bethany Temple, the leader of JHOP Boston, felt an urgency once again to call all of New England universities to 40 days of fasting, but she needed confirmation. A young man gave her the following dream: Lou Engle was on a stage praying with a drummer behind him. The prayer that was being prayed was “Beseech the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into the harvest field.” Suddenly, the drummer interrupted Lou with what sounded like the voice of the Lord, declaring, “Now has come the salvation of God! And it will begin on April 9th, 2010.”

Obviously, such a dream with a date must be carefully weighed before the Lord, but April 9th is the same day that the 40day fast ended four years ago and it is also the anniversary of the Azusa Street outpouring. Could it be that Lou Engle praying represents the 40 day fast that God wants to interrupt and answer with a new move of evangelism and a new breed of spiritual awakeners stirring the universities of New England and the nation? Even now, reports of outpourings of the spirit are being heard on scattered universities.

The students of IHOPU in Kansas City, MO have been experiencing an extraordinary move of the Holy Spirit marked by salvation, physical/emotional healing and deliverance. We believe this is only a foretaste of what is about to be released upon our nations campuses. Knowing nothing of the previous dream, the leaders of IHOPU were stirred to launch 40 days of prayer, fasting and evangelism targeting Boston and the Ivy League schools of New England during these very dates – March 1st through April 9th.

On the weekend of April 9th, not coincidentally, Awakening America is gathering students from across the land to Oral Roberts University with an expectation of imminent spiritual visitation in the nation. On April 9th as well, Jeremy Story with One Cry, will be gathering in New York City at Times Square Church and they are expecting hundreds of university students to cry out for campus awakenings in America. Also on February 25th, the Collegiate Day of Prayer is being resurrected after nearly 100 years of silence. Many other prayer initiatives are taking place in our universities. What is going on? Prayer is being breathed for university awakenings and all of this coincides with a prophetic word given by William Seymour, the Azusa Street pioneer, that in 100 years (prophecy given in 1909 by William Seymour) another great outpouring of the Holy Spirit would take place. If we are in such a moment where a door for great change is opening, then by all means we must become the generation that risks everything to become the hinge of history. Let us follow in the path of our Master who fasted 40 days preparing for his apostolic gospel to be unleashed in the earth.

With this faith in our hearts, we are calling all of those whose hearts are stirred in colleges and universities across America to engage March 1st through April 9th in a 40-day Daniel fast (no meats, no sweets and limited intake) March 1st through April 9th releasing one great cry, one dominating prayer, “Lord of the harvest thrust forth laborers into the harvest field. Give us a third great awakening in the universities of America!”

40 years ago a great spiritual rebellion and revolution took place on the campuses of America and now we are reaping the fruit of that 40-year rebellion. But, 40 years are up and we are believing that a new generation will arise with the flaming tongue of the gospel and launch a spiritual revolution that could shake humanism and false ideologies through a mass harvest of souls coming to Christ. Shall we not dare to believe that giants were meant to fall and that God is greater than the boasting spiritual powers that dominate our universities today? Let us go up and possess the land for the sake of Christ.

LORD, FORGIVE US !

LORD, FORGIVE US !
Thousands Gathering for Third Year of Prayer in the Square
to Pray for God’s Mercy on Behalf of Our Nation

New York, N.Y. – July 3, 2009--- On September 20, 2009, from 3:00pm to 4:00pm in Times Square, New York City, thousands of people of all ages, races, cultures, and backgrounds, representing churches of every denomination, are gathering together to pray for our nation at Prayer in the Square. The one-hour event drew an estimated 18,000 to 20,000 people in 2008 and is expected to draw an even larger crowd this year. The theme of the event is “Lord, Forgive us!” -- a call to God’s people to seek God’s mercy.

“In the Bible, Daniel prayed on behalf of a people who had sinned. He prayed explicitly for mercy and forgiveness,” says Carter Conlon, Senior Pastor of Times Square Church. “On September 20, the third and final year of Prayer in the Square, we will gather in humility to pray and ask God for forgiveness on behalf of our nation. I believe 2009 will be a very profound year and by September we will see the fulfillment of why God has called us to pray. This is about Jesus Christ being glorified and about the church being strengthened.”

A 180-voice gospel choir will sing between three-minute intervals of prayer. Ten people, including church leaders, as well as individuals from different walks of life, will pray for three minutes each. The event will be broadcast live on radio on STAR 99.1 FM (New York), and Radio Cantico Nuevo (Spanish language, New York). Churches in various countries around the world, including Burundi, Kenya, United Kingdom, Benin, Singapore, and Israel, will be are gathering to pray via the live webcast at nycprayer.org.

The event is open to the public and to churches of all denominations. Churches can register to attend the event or participate via live webcast at nycprayer.org

Praying Together in 1 Accord at such a time as THIS ....

Last evening my husband and I were part of a gathering nearby. The reason we and the other couple who came to our friends' home was to pray.... The Holy Spirit lead the gathering as we shared from our hearts and cried out to The King of The Universe, Jesus Christ, The Son of The LIVING God according to His Word of TRUTH.

It had been WAY too long since I had been a part of a group like that and such a BLESSING it was: husbands and wives and one son were there seeking God in ONE accord. May this just be The Beginning since we KNOW The One Who answers heartfelt persistent prayer. When all else IS failing, what do we have left?

Have you heard the song, Where 2 or 3 are gathered in My Name, THERE I AM ? (It is recorded on Hide 'Em In Your Heart newly re-released by Steve Green .) I was trying to explain this to one of our sons recently. When we gather with others who love Jesus Christ, there seems to be MORE of HIM Present, not that He isn't enough in each of us as individuals. However, it IS True that when we gather with other humble, Spirit filled believers in Jesus Christ, MORE of The Gifts of The Holy Spirit are able to operate manifestly for the benefit of each one there and we SEE Him more CLEARLY in what He IS/wants to do in each life.

PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME !

25 & STILL Living at home? !!!

Below is PART of another article by Rachel Starr Thomson. The points she makes are things I have seen at times in young people who have made similar choices. We are DELIGHTED that our 18 year old daughter is coming back "to the nest" and we welcome our other college students to do the same, as The Holy Spirit leads !

The DEVIL is a LIAR, he makes us THINK we are IN-dependent. Actually, when we have no one to "answer" to, we are his unwitting pawns. LORD, DELIVER US from DECEPTION ! Amen. AMEN. AMEN !!!

20-Something Reasons to Live at Home by Rachel Starr Thomson

I'm newly 25 and still living at home...

We're not here because our parents are control freaks (they're not). We're not here because we're scared of the real world, lack ambition, or just can't make it out there. Rather, we've discovered that living at home is an excellent way to lay a foundation for the rest of our lives. We're doing our best to take advantage of it....

Over the years, I've realized five key benefits of living at home as a young adult — whether with my own family or with another. Family life offers many blessings for the stay-at-home single adult, provided that we use this stage to actively and responsibly build a future. Living at home is especially helpful for single women, but guys can benefit from it as well....
Recently, a good friend of mine moved out of the apartment she'd been sharing with her mother into a new one with a roommate. After a few months, the roommate moved home to England, and my friend was on her own.

Before she'd been in that apartment a year, she was forced to move again. This time, she decided to move in with an older couple who had just sent their daughter off to university in Toronto. They had two empty bedrooms and hearts that were very willing to take in another "daughter."

Shortly after she made this decision, she and I had an interesting conversation. She expressed how much she had enjoyed having her way — her tea and a book before bed, her quiet, her music, her habits and preferences. I pointed out that this wasn't necessarily a good thing. In just a few months, my friend was losing her flexibility and ability to flow with others. We both saw that the coming change was the best thing for her.

After she moved back into a family home, the change in her was remarkable. In no time, she was back to her old self — more cheerful, flexible and fun to be around.

"A puppy thrown to the wolves will either be eaten or learn to be a wolf"...

In my life as a mother of 8 children (3 married) and grandmother of 8 children, I have learned so very much. Below is part of an article by Rachel Starr Thomson who has articulated some of what I have been pondering during these 33 years of home discipling. Our youngest is now almost 14 years old and we are still teaching her at home. As far as I am concerned, what I have been doing IS home DISCIPLING : teaching our children The Word of The LORD JESUS CHRIST, The Son of The LIVING God and inviting The Holy Spirit to teach them as they grow in knowing Him for themselves as their Savior and Lord.

The word "homeschooling" is misleading, and I'm not especially fond of it. Homeschooling is not primarily about school at all. Homeschooling is a lifestyle. It encompasses nearly every aspect of life and family, and its influence is far greater than anything found in the pages of Saxon math or Charlotte Mason-approved novels. It's that lifestyle I have loved, its foundations I am so grateful for, its inherent ideas about life I'm still living out. If I have children, I mean to homeschool them.

Sheltered at Home

Homeschooling is sharply distinct from the lifestyles of those who "go to" school, first because homeschooled kids don't "go" anywhere. They stay home. What does that mean to a child? It means shelter, security and greater ability to be children in a world that wants people to grow up too fast.
....

Many homeschool parents like to use the greenhouse analogy. A plant that is tenderly nurtured in a greenhouse, protected from predators and the elements, can later be transplanted to live a healthy, thriving life. One that is always outside may simply be eaten, or stunted and destroyed by wind, sun and snow it's not ready to encounter.

I like to say that a puppy thrown to the wolves will either be eaten or learn to be a wolf. A fully grown dog stands a fighting chance.

Our home was sheltered. I remember realizing at a very young age that many of my friends were scarred and jaded by their experiences at school — and I'm talking about children under the age of 10! They were already cynical, already hurt, already worldly-wise.

In many ways my siblings and I were naïve and innocent, and we knew it — and were glad of it. We did encounter evil. We learned about sin and consequences, hell and heaven, cold hard reality and the need for grace. But we didn't learn about these things by falling prey, nor were we left to figure things out for ourselves. We learned by our parents' side.

..........................................

Many homeschooling parents choose to bring their children home because they believe it is their God-given responsibility to disciple them.

Discipleship extends beyond spiritual concerns to character and life training. My mom practiced discipleship when she spent hours teaching us to scrub a bathtub properly, to cook a pot of spaghetti sauce from scratch and to wash our socks with homemade soap. We learned practical and business skills at home from our parents. We spent serious time with them, watching them in action, gleaning from their character and experience. And we learned how all these things related to who we were in God.
